Hello there! My name is Corinne Riddell and I am the instructor for this class. I’ve been teaching PH142 since Fall 2018 and love introducing new students to stats and R. My research is on social and perinatal epidemiology. Outside of work, I love cooking and rock climbing (I just did my first trad lead outdoors!). I grew up near Niagara Falls, Ontario, and have lived in Ottawa, Vancouver, and Montreal.

Lead GSI

Kelsey MacCuish (she/her/hers)

Kelsey MacCuish (she/her/hers)

Hi everyone! My name is Kelsey and I am a second year MPH student in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I am originally from Los Angeles, completed my undergrad at Cal in May 2020 (go bears!) and am super excited to be teaching PH142 again! I spend most of my free time swimming or finding the closest beach. I can’t wait for a wonderful semester with all of you!

GSIs

Chandler Beon (he/him/his)

Chandler Beon (he/him/his)

Hello everyone! I’m Chandler, and I am a senior studying Data Science and Molecular & Cell Biology. My interests lie in the intersection of medicine and engineering, with the ultimate goal of being able to engineer solutions to improve the quality of healthcare. In my spare time, I like to take the opportunity to explore new places, go bouldering, or drown myself in coffee. Feel free to reach out about any issues you may have with Datahub (or even to strike up a conversation about anything, really). Looking forward to a great semester!

Maggie Kuang (she/her/hers)

Maggie Kuang (she/her/hers)

Hello everyone! I am Maggie, a first year MA/PhD student in Biostatistics. I am originally from China and received my bachelor’s degree in Biometry & Statistics and Agricultural sciences from both Cornell University and Zhejiang University. I am interested in solving statistical and computational issues arising in the analysis of complex datasets. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Noel Pimentel (he/they/him/theirs)

Noel Pimentel (he/they/him/theirs)

Hola everyone. My name is Noel [no-L], and I’m a first year MA/PhD student in biostatistics; I’m queer, first-generation Mexican-American, and I was a transfer student at UC Berkeley back in 2013. I’m originally from the Fresno area and I’ve been living in Oakland for the past couple of years working as a data analyst at Kaiser Permanente. I’m interested in causal inference and its application on longitudinal electronic health records, specifically to improve mental health outcomes within BIPOC communities and immigrant populations. I’m looking forward to meeting y’all this fall and being y’alls GSI.

Nolan Gunter (they/them/theirs)

Nolan Gunter (they/them/theirs)

Hello everyone! I’m Nolan and I’m a first year MA/PhD Biostatistics student. I’m originally from the Seattle area and recently graduated with my bachelor’s in mathematics and economics from Oregon State University. I’m interested in epidemiology, HIV/AIDS, neuroimaging and causal inference research. In my free time I enjoy gardening, reading, and reality TV! Looking forward to working with you all!

Sky Qiu (he/him/his)

Sky Qiu (he/him/his)

Hello everyone! My name is Sky, and I am a first year Biostatistics student. I recently graduated from University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in data sciences and statistics. I am broadly interested in the statistical methodology used in Epidemiology and Causal Inference. Looking forward to meeting you all this Fall!

Tyler Mansfield (he/him/his)

Tyler Mansfield (he/him/his)

Hey guys! My name is Tyler and this is my first year at Berkeley as a MA/PhD student. I was born and raised in Utah, though I spent two years in Southern California near San Bernardino. I graduated from BYU in Applied and Computational Mathematics and am passionate about data-driven healthcare and personalized medicine. Outside of school, I love running, volleyball, swimming, board/card games, and socializing. See you guys soon!

Sean Yu (he/him/his)

Sean Yu (he/him/his)

Hi everybody! My name is Xiangyu and I’m a first year MA/PhD student in biostatistics. I know it is really hard to pronounce my first name for non-Chinese speakers, so please call me Sean /ʃɔːn/ (very similar sounding) (^_^). I’m originally from China and have received my bachelor degree at Peking University in 2020. My research interests include the statistical methodology for clinical trials and causal inference. Looking forward to working with you all in this new semester!
